How to Measure AI Visibility Without Made-Up Scores

By Akshay Zine, Founder of AuctorisAI · Updated

The short answer

Measure AI visibility by asking the same buyer questions across several AI assistants with live web search, then recording whether your brand is mentioned, which competitors appear and which sources are cited. Keep the full prompts and answers as evidence, and repeat on a schedule. Avoid single “AI visibility scores” that hide the method.

Which AI visibility metrics actually mean something?

Useful observations include: unprompted mentions (does AI name you when asked about your category without your name in the prompt?), the competitor share on the same prompt, the number of independent domains cited about you, the consistency of your facts across models, and the freshness of the most recent coverage. Record failed or unavailable responses separately and never count them as zero.

A repeatable method

Use fixed prompts, record the model and date, and keep your brand name out of the category prompt so the comparison is fair. Save the raw answers and the provider-returned citations. AI answers vary, so treat a small sample as a diagnostic, not a market-share figure.

  • Pick 1–5 buyer questions per category.
  • Run them on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini with web search.
  • Record mentions, competitors and cited domains.
  • Repeat weekly or monthly with the same prompts.

Automate it for free

The AuctorisAI AI Visibility Action Report runs this method automatically. Each model runs live web searches about your brand and your industry, and you get mentions, competitor comparison, independent sources, homepage AEO readiness, a GEO/AEO fix kit and a branded PDF. Every claim links to the saved evidence. Signed-in users can turn on automatic weekly re-checks.

Common questions

What is a good AI visibility score?

Be cautious with single scores. Ask how they are calculated. Transparent counts on fixed prompts, with the raw answers available, are more useful than an opaque number.

How often should I measure?

Weekly or monthly is enough for most brands. Measure more often around launches or PR campaigns.
